Consultative session on reporting of course grade distributions
1040
1144
The distribution of grades within a given course (or individual section) is a matter of public record. Under open records laws, the University must furnish such information to anyone who requests it. The University has furnished such information to private companies for about 10 years. (For an example, see www.myedu.com).Registrar Patton would like to discuss whether such data should be made available via UNI's website and, if so, what restrictions should be placed on it. This could be made available only to professors, to facilitate assessment of student learning within programs or LAC areas. It could also be made available more broadly to students or the public.
Therefore, be it resolved that Registrar Phil Patton will consult with the Senate about posting course grade distributions.
