On Feb. 28, 2012, at a joint meeting of the Elementary and Secondary Teacher Education Faculty Senates, a vote was taken on a No Confidence motion. The motion passes on a vote of 15-1 with 1 abstention. That motion required the filing of the petition below urging the Faculty Senate to pursuit this same course of action. The original motion has been uploaded for the review by the Faculty Senate. The Teacher Education Faculty Senates request that this motion be docketed at the top of the order.

Whereas, It appears that the University administration is deciding to make significant and substantial cuts in curricular programs with supreme disregard of the university's mission and its strategic plan, without any consultation with faculty in affected programs and faculty knowledgeable about the interrelationships of academic programs, with evident disregard for the values of shared governance, and based upon extremely fragmented and reductionistic data; It appears that the University administration is willing to devastate the breadth, diversity, and interdependency of our curricular offerings in ways that will do immediate and immeasurable harm to the academic integrity and viability of our university, as well as immediate and immeasurable harm to the high regard extended to the University by, among others, current and prospective students, former students, prospective employers of our students, and prospective donors; Be it resolved that the Faculty Senate hereby expresses a vote of No Confidence in the leadership and decision-making of President Ben Allen.Be it resolved that the Faculty Senate hereby expresses a vote of No Confidence in the leadership and decision-making of Provost Gloria Gibson.Be it resolved that the Faculty Senate hereby expresses a vote of No Confidence in the leadership and decision-making of the Iowa Board of Regents.Be it further resolved that the results of said vote shall be conveyed immediately to President Allen and Provost Gibson, the Board of Regents, all members of the Iowa Legislature, and Governor Terry Branstad.
