The University Writing Committee (UWC) has established that faculty want more/ better pedagogical support, that we are at an extreme variance with peer institutions, and that with the current configuration of writing in the curriculum, there is no meaningful faculty oversight of its delivery, coordination, or assessment. The Senate voted to adopt more writing-intensive courses in the curriculum and the UWC has proposed several models, none of which have been supported by administration. Even release time for gaining grant support does not appear to be forthcoming. We most recently asked to move into the Provost's Office so we would not have to continue chasing resources the Faculty Senate does not have. That suggestion has been denied.
We wish to update the Senate on these developments and seek guidance for subsequent action.
