Consultation: Constructions Majors Request to Wear Construction Hats to Commencement

Would need to be added as a motion under new business of for the March meeting.
Note from the Registrar:
Good Morning, President Nook,
The University Commencement Committee met this morning to review a request from Construction Management majors here at UNI. They are requesting for all graduating Construction Management majors to wear gray hard hats with an approved UNI logo on them. I've attached their full proposal.
Overall, the committee liked the idea but had some concerns. They voted to defer to your office since this is a first of its kind request at UNI.
Here are the committees thoughts in a nutshell:
Pros:
Great way to bring recognition to a specific program
Going through the University means they are uniform and approved forms of expression
Are real hard hats that could serve as additional marketing once the students graduate
Concerns:
What other programs or organizations may subsequently request personalization of their regalia. Examples were given of what if Marching Band graduates want to wear their hats or Criminology majors want to wear police hats.
How does the university equitably and fairly define which programs and circumstances can personalize their regalia moving forward.
I would propose that if it's approved part of the stipulations are that it is an approved logo and uniform regalia exceptions across those graduates, that it is limited to academic programs, and that all graduates from a given program with approved regalia exceptions are eligible to participate.
Please let me know your decision or I can schedule a meeting to discuss it further.
Thank you for your time!
