Facts

The Nominating Committee proposes to decrease committee membership from 4-6 Senators (though current membership is at 9 Senators) to 2-3 Senators.

The rationale behind this proposal is that (1) the majority of this committee's work consist of administrative tasks (e.g. emailing college senate chairs, managing a spreadsheet of committees, and creating the election in Qualtrics) best suited to individual work, not collaboration.  Historically, the Chair and Senate officer liaison work closely on these tasks. Attempts to loop in additional committee members creates unnecessary steps.  Additionally, (2) committee members were initially meant to serve as liaisons to their college when seeking nominations for elections.  However, in practice, the Nominating Committee Chair works directly with each College Senate Chair, removing the need for additional committee members to bridge communication between parties.

These changes would allow for the Chair and elected Senate officer liaison to continue to work closely together, while having an additional Senator or two who could provide support and create continuity in the committee’s work.
