Consultation Completed

The working group that was formed to review and update the effort certification guidance and policy would like to report and consult with the Senate. 

A new and more formalized faculty evaluation process (including post-tenure review) is in the process of adoption by the university that includes new standards of accountability for all faculty. A parallel system of accountability is proposed for administration, starting with department heads. Previous work on this issue was completed by a committee of administrators and a subcommittee of the Faculty Handbook Committee in 2017-2018. A new committee comprised of three faculty and three department heads was directed by the Faculty Handbook Committee to complete this task in 2018-2019.

The Purple and Old Gold Award is the highest award given by the University of Northern Iowa at commencement each spring. This award has been reviewed and the process updated by the Office of the Provost and the Office of the Registrar. We are requesting Faculty Senate review these revisions at and provide any relevant feedback. Bill Henninger, Nicole Lehman and Joyce Morrow will be presenting.

The Taskforce for Academic Probation and Suspension (TAPS) requests a consultation with UNI Faculty Senate to review and receive feedback on a proposal for a new suspension process. 

Provost Herrera will update the Senate on enrollment.

I would like to speak to the Senate to inform them about some upcoming phishing education that will include all UNI faculty and staff. The training
series is tentatively set to begin in October and to run throughout most of the academic year. Given that time frame, I would like to speak during one of the September meetings, preferably the one on the 10th but the 24th would also be acceptable.

Petition to include in Faculty Senate Agenda: presentation & feedback on the Civic Action Plan. The Civic Action Plan was drafted last year by a committee as the implementation of Goal #3 of the Strategic Plan, Community Engagement.  Please see:  https://engagement.uni.edu/civic-action-plan The Plan will be sent out campus-wide for feedback following the presentation in  Senate.

Provost Wolpart had promised Faculty Senate Review/Discussion of Policy 6.10 - Academic Freedom and Shared Governance before it goes before the Executive Management Team (EMT).

The Office of Undergraduate Studies is looking to implement a "Graduation with Leadership Distinction" program for our students.  We would like to have a brief consultative session to present the idea and get feedback from the Senate. 

Whereas, the university has encountered a variety of issues related to current email practices which include email account creation and deactivation parameters.  Input of faculty is essential as IT considers alternatives for moving forward.
