10.08 University of Northern Iowa Policy on Intellectual Property Rights

This policy has been in the works for some time.  A version was approved by the Senate last year, but was held back by the faculty leadership out of a desire to re-work an issue.   Randall Harlow, Chair of the Policy Committee, and other members of the committee met with the Provost and others from His Office to work out some details.  In that time, another new policy, written by the former Provost was found.  This final draft attempts to integrate the key issues each of these drafts.

UCC and GCCC Program Changes

Curriculum proposals that require Board of Regents approval, such as program name changes and terminations, are handled before all other curriculum proposals in the annual curriculum cycle. This year the UCC and the GCCC both met during the first week of classes (on August 25 and 27) to begin our curriculum reviews. The changes must be approved by the Faculty Senate before they can be moved to the BOR. Because the proposals have to be considered at three different meetings in the BOR process, we have to start right away in Fall in order to make the schedule for the 2022‐2023 catalog.

Request for Membership in the Voting Faculty, Thomas Hesse, Dept. of Philosophy and World Religions

Article I: Section 1.4 of the Faculty Constitution (attachment #1) allows members of the non-voting faculty the option to petition to become members of the voting faculty. I have been an adjunct instructor at UNI since 2012, and I have served on the Faculty Senate since 2016. As a senator I represent around 200 contingent (term and adjunct) faculty members and I receive a stipend for my service, yet I have never had voting rights. On the other hand, I previously served in a similar capacity on the executive board of United Faculty, and there I always had voting rights.
