The Northern Iowa Student Government Senate passed a resolution on January 19, 2011 proposing the idea of Dead Days. Dead days could include a day of cancelled class or a review day void of assignments and papers. Because this resolution is regarding faculty affairs, a paper copy was sent to the Chair of the Faculty Senate. An electronic copy is being submitted here.
I would encourage the Faculty Senate to consider university-wide recommendations, although individual professor and department decisions would not be discouraged.
The Northern Iowa Student Government Senate is asking the Faculty Senate to receive and review the resolution, discuss the feasibility of a dead week or dead days, and reply if necessary.
