In March, #4b of the Board of Regents Directives on DEI was voted on to become Board Policy.  4b states "No employee, student, applicant, or campus visitor is compelled to disclose their pronouns".  As part of a larger effort to communicate this policy across campus, revisions are proposed to the Free Speech Syllabus statement where a sentence is added that states "Anyone may choose to voluntarily disclose their own pronouns, but no employee, student, applicant, or campus visitor is ever compelled to do so".  This edit would align us the Board policy, as well as other regents universities. Oksana Grybovych Haferman, Chief of Staff and Professor, will be present to address questions.

Calendar Item:

Docket Number:

Facts:

In the past two years, some questions have come up from the committee convened to examine nominations for the Regents Award for Faculty Excellence.
1. Should the college senates, who are asked to obtain nominations, also be asked to judge the candidates in any way?

2. Should the candidates nominally hold the rank of full professor?

3. In addition, should teaching evaluations be required?

Action:

Therefore, be it resolved for the university senate to do the following:
1. Decide whether further discussions should be held by an ad hoc committee with college senates concerning whether they should provide some assessment of the candidates in addition to securing nominations?
2. Accept the proposed changes to the criteria of the Regents Award for Faculty Excellence, which includes a provision stating that full professor status is preferred but not mandatory for receipt of the award and teaching evaluations are not required.
3. Accept the minor editorial revisions.
