Last Name:

Facts:

Policy 13.13 Policy on Research Misconduct (approved by the Senate 11/30/2009), requires that any faculty member accused of research misconduct be investigated by a committee that includes faculty members whose names will have been "sought periodically from the Faculty Senate." (Detailed procedures can be found at http://www.uni.edu/osp/sites/default/files/Research%20Misconduct%20Procedures%201-7-10.pdf).

Because this pool has not been properly constituted, Chair Peters asked the college senates to submit names of faculty members to serve on the Faculty Academic Misconduct Panel.

Action:

Therefore, be it resolved that the Senate approve a pool of people to constitute a Faculty Academic Misconduct Panel who can be drawn from in the event of allegations of scholarly misconduct.

Consultative session on reporting of course grade distributions

Calendar Item:
1144
Docket Number:
1040
First Name:
Scott
Last Name:
Peters
Facts:

The distribution of grades within a given course (or individual section) is a matter of public record. Under open records laws, the University must furnish such information to anyone who requests it. The University has furnished such information to private companies for about 10 years. (For an example, see www.myedu.com).

Registrar Patton would like to discuss whether such data should be made available via UNI's website and, if so, what restrictions should be placed on it. This could be made available only to professors, to facilitate assessment of student learning within programs or LAC areas. It could also be made available more broadly to students or the public.
