The Educational Policies Commission has proposed changes to Policy 10.08, which pertains to intellectual property rights regarding online course development.

The Senate's Ad Hoc Governance Committee has developed a number of recommendations to enhance Senate structures and procedures. Past Senate Chair James Mattingly, who chaired the ad hoc committee, will present them to the Senate for a vote.

The Board of Regents has approved recommendations by its Free Speech Committee, one of which is the inclusion of a free speech statement on all syllabi (see supporting documentation). Senate Vice-Chair Danielle Cowley and Senate DEI Committee member Cara Burnidge have drafted a statement in accordance with the BOR's decision, and it will be presented to the Senate for a vote.

David Hakes (Economics) is retiring and has requested emeritus status.

GERC co-chairs Brenda Bass and Ana Kogl will update the Senate on the committee's proposed name and program philosophy for the new general education program (items #1 and #2 of the committee's charge).

Lea Shaddox is retiring and has requested emeritus status.

The Regents Award Committee has decided upon recommendations for the recipient(s) of the 2021 Regents Award for Faculty Excellence. The Senate will discuss and vote on these recommendations in executive session.

Deborah Tidwell is retiring and has requested emeritus status.

The increasing use of online education has resulted in new forms of cheating by students, which were unaddressed in the previous version of this policy.  The proposed changes would specify categories for these new forms of cheating and identify specific penalties.
