Stephen Gaies is announcing his retirement and has applied for Emeritus status. Jennifer Cooley, Department Head, has filed a letter in support of his candidacy.

Taifa Yu is retiring from the University of Northern Iowa in December, 2019, having more than 31 years meritorious service in higher education, and has requested Emeritus status.

Attached documents explain the "open pathway" to re-affirmation of accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission. The other attachment is our Open Pathway Quality Initiative Proposal, an integral part of the process toward re-affirmation of accreditation on the open pathway. Note that the service learning initiative that we chose as our Quality Initiative is central to the mission outlined in our strategic plan, especially to supporting goal #3 on community engagement. HLC Liaison John Marr will be on campus November 11, providing an opportunity to discuss the upcoming visit in Spring 2021, as the culmination of our current 10-year re-affirmation of accreditation process. Therefore, be it resolved that the University Faculty Senate will consult with HLC liaison John Marr.
Members of the Educational Policies Commission would like to share with the Senate a brief update of our work over the past year on the Scholarly Misconduct Policy. The policy is currently in final stages of revision, but we feel it is important to communicate with the Senate our progress thus far. Attached are: 1) a Powerpoint that will be presented during the consultation; and 2) University Policy 0.00, the Policy on Policies
No action is requested - simply time to share a brief update on our progress. Therefore, be it resolved that the University Faculty Senate will consult with the Educational Policies Commission.
Attached are marked-up policy changes proposed on September 24, 2018 and pages from Senate minutes on that day, pertaining to this discussion. The outcome of that discussion was a vote, by the Senate, to refer policy changes back to the EPC. The nature of changes being considered at that time are the subject of the discussion included in the minutes.
