UCC Program Changes

Calendar Item:
1466
Docket Number:
1347
First Name:
James
Last Name:
Mattingly
Facts:

Adequate consideration and consultation, regarding program terminations and name changes, are documented in attachments.  Note that item 1, however, regarding a program name change from “AT-BA: Athletic Training and Rehabilitation Studies” to “Clinical Healthcare Studies ”, along with minor changes in electives, has been sent back to the UCC for further consultation prior to Senate consideration.  Items 2 & 3, then, in the Summary of Undergraduate Curriculum Proposals, are pertinent to this petition.  Therefore, be it resolved that the University Faculty Senate approves the University Committee on Curriculum's program changes submitted on August 30, 2019, subject to exclusion of item 1.

Action:

Curriculum proposals that require Board of Regents approval, such as program name changes and terminations, are handled before all other curriculum proposals in the annual curriculum cycle. This year the UCC and the GCCC both met during the first week of classes (August 26th) to begin our curriculum reviews. The changes must be approved by the Faculty Senate before they can be moved to the BOR. Because the proposals have to be considered at three different meetings in the BOR process, we have to start right away in Fall in order to make the schedule  for the 2020‐2021 catalog.

Consultation: Department of Communication Studies Name Change to Department of Communication and Media

Calendar Item:
1456
Docket Number:
1337
First Name:
Laura
Last Name:
Terlip
Facts:

Last year Communication Studies faculty voted to change the name of our department to the Department of Communication and Media in order to more clearly reflect our courses, majors and minors. The faculty vote was unanimous and we filed the appropriate form with the Provost's Office and sent consultations to both regent institutions. The consultations received indicated support for the change. We have attached the Form G and the consultations to this petition. Once we have consulted with the Faculty Senate the Board of Regents will be contacted to finalize the change. Our understanding from the Provost's Office is that there is no need for a vote by the Senate but a consultation is required. Therefore, be it resolved that the University Faculty Senate has consulted with the Communication Studies department, regarding their proposed name change.

Action:

The Department of Communication Studies would like to be placed on the agenda as early as possible to consult with the Faculty Senate about the proposed name change.
