The Faculty Senate Governance Committee proposes the attached bylaws revisions to accommodate a new framework for delegating members to the University Faculty Senate. It provides an opportunity for the voting faculty of each academic department to provide a senate delegate, at their discretion. The Senate Nominating Committee will facilitate communication with Department Heads each spring, during faculty elections.
This will not take effect until the Fall of 2023
The Senate Leadership Committee approved docketing with the request that the committee discuss and prepare an amendment next year to include some at large positions.
Therefore, be it resolved that the University Faculty Senate approves the proposed changes to the Senate Bylaws.
The Senate Governance Committee proposes adoption of the attached Faculty Senate Handbook for the 2022-23 academic year.
Question: Should the name be changed to "University Faculty Senate Handbook" (Since there are also College Senates.)
Therefore, be it resolved that the University Faculty Senate approves adoption of the 2022-23 Faculty Senate Handbook.
Bill Koch has served the University for 23 years.
The Regents Award Committee has decided upon recommendations for the recipient(s) of the 2022 Regents Award for Faculty Excellence.
The Senate will discuss and vote on these recommendations in executive session.
GCCC has approved a post masters in Mental Health. This was down outside of the regular curriculum cycle, so it didn't go through leapfrog, it was handled via documents and a network of sharing. At this point, the Senate is the last stage of approval.
I asked why this was done outside of the regular curriculum cycle. This was the reply:
The curriculum committee (undergrad and grad) meets during the fall semester to process the proposals that are uploaded via Leapfrog. When a department wants to submit a proposal outside the curricular cycle (like post masters Mental health), the system does not allow for uploads so we use the paperforms. In this case, the Counseling department approached Academic Affairs with this initiative outside of the regular cycle and it was told to contact the parties involved in order to proceed. The Counseling Department wants to start the admission process to the Mental Health certificate this summer and already has a list of interested parties.
