We have posted the ballot and a clean copy. We have also posted a letter expressing concerns authored by faculty members on the committee around changes to the process and some decisions that were made. On Friday afternoon, we also got back the results of the FHC votes. Those are in two files, one for items that got a majority vote, the other for items that did not. The vote totals are posted with each item.
Departments that offer BS degrees have requested the minimum hours be changed from 126 to 120 hours.
There are no external barriers or considerations for this change to the minimum hour exit requirement.
The additional six hours was a choice UNI made related to the length of the LAC and other exit requirements that are no longer in place.
Therefore, be it resolved that the Faculty Senate will provide consultation on the the BS degree required hours.
It is time for the University to review and update it's list of "peer" institutions. These are the Universities that we use for comparison to see how we are doing in various benchmarks.
They are proposing that we use the same process to establish a revised set of peers that we will submit to the board for approval.
However, they would also like to discuss the need for different sets of peer groups for different purposes (e.g. student success measures vs. faculty salaries). This would be new.
Kristin Moser, and possibly others, will be here to lead the consultation.
This will be the second consultation on the proposed nursing program prior to the first reading of the Board of Regents on the Proposal.
We have been gathering questions from the Faculty about the proposed program. The consultation will begin with the Adminstration addressing those questions.
As before, our focus will be on the Nursing Program. The possible realignment into a School of Health Sciences will need consultations all it's own. But we are planning to wait until the Departments have finished their consultations. Also, if the Nursing Program isn't accepted by the BOR, there probably won't be a School of Health Sciences. (We could end up with a nursing program but just as a department, not a school. But it seems unlikely that we would have a School of Health Sciences without the Nursing Program.) So we don't yet know if the consultation will be needed.
